Automotive R&D center - GPS signal inside the building

A GPS re-radiating network in an automotive research and development center - from 0-1 satellites and no fix to a fix with 44 of 54 satellites and 9.9 m accuracy indoors, with a donor antenna on the roof terrace and distribution from the basement to the upper floors.

In brief

At an automotive research and development center, the engineers who develop and test GPS-equipped devices did not have enough signal to test their equipment: indoors, receivers generally saw 0-1 satellites, with no fix. Claritech built a GPS re-radiating network across the floors occupied by the client: a donor antenna on the roof terrace, a distribution rack serving the basement and the upper floors, re-radiating amplifiers with 0-26 dB variable gain, amplified 8-way splitters (18 dB) and discreet antennas in the office ceilings. At commissioning, indoor measurements showed a fix with 44 of 54 satellites visible and an accuracy of 9.9 m, with similar values at every test point. Indoor GPS re-radiation was implemented based on a radio design with a simulated coverage map, with before/after measurements in each zone.
