About the project
For a shopping center in Bucharest, Claritech designed and installed the data network that connects the technical spaces, the retail gallery and the outdoor equipment: a single-mode fiber backbone, weather-protected distribution points and managed PoE switches. The work was carried out in 2022-2023, with the shopping center in operation.
Project requirements
A shopping center’s PoE equipment - surveillance cameras, access points, parking equipment - is distributed across the whole site: parking areas, perimeter, gallery. The distances exceed the limit of copper cabling, and the routes and equipment points are permanently outdoors. The network required a fiber-optic backbone with aerial crossings between buildings, outdoor cabinets and racks with their own ventilation and heating, and PoE switches at every distribution point.
The solution
Single-mode fiber backbone
Around 4.1 km of outdoor fiber, in 4- and 24-fiber cables, terminated in 14 ODFs with about 340 splices - including aerial crossings on steel messenger wire between buildings.
Outdoor distribution points
7 IP65 cabinets with ventilation, thermostat and heating element, plus 5 outdoor industrial racks - the network equipment runs permanently outside the building.
PoE access across the site
About 20 managed PoE switches, 24- and 48-port, linked over single-mode fiber to the network’s aggregation core, with SFP modules on every uplink.
Work in an active mall
Around 2.3 km of buried HDPE conduit and around 2.3 km of PE-jacketed outdoor Cat 6 cable, with the works carried out without interrupting the center’s activity and handed over with an as-built project.

A distribution rack in the gallery: the patch field and the patch cords organized on cable management.

Detail from a distribution point: the copper patch panels, with the single-mode fiber arriving in the panel above.
What we delivered
The main quantities, per the project:
| Component | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Outdoor single-mode fiber (4- and 24-fiber cables) | ~4,100 m |
| Fiber splices · pigtails | ~340 · 336 |
| 24-port ODFs | 14 |
| Outdoor Cat 6 F/UTP cable, PE jacket | ~2,300 m |
| Buried HDPE conduit, with accessories | ~2,300 m |
| IP65 outdoor cabinets, ventilated and heated | 7 |
| IP65 outdoor industrial racks | 5 |
| 26U racks in the gallery’s technical spaces | 3 |
| Managed PoE switches (24 / 48 ports) | ~20 |
| Single-mode SFP uplink modules | 20 |
| Aerial crossings on steel messenger wire | 3 |

A finished distribution point: glass-door rack, with the patching organized and labeled.
The results
One network for the whole site. The gallery, the technical spaces and the outdoor equipment connect to the same fiber backbone, through weather-protected distribution points.
PoE power at every point. The field equipment is powered directly from the distribution points’ PoE switches, without separate local power supplies.
Capacity reserve. The 24-fiber backbone leaves room to grow - new cameras, access points or systems are added without new backbone routes.
As-built documentation. The routes, distribution points and connections are documented for the later operation and extension of the network.
Why Claritech
Data networks designed and built with our own teams - from the server room to the equipment points in the field, in buildings that stay in operation.
