Satellite backhaul for isolated sites

VSAT terminals installed at isolated communications sites, with no fiber and no radio line of sight: mounting at height on guyed masts, a complete RF chain and integration into the site's equipment - projects delivered since 2016.

About the project

Some communications sites cannot be connected by conventional means: no possibility of installing optical fiber and no radio line of sight for a microwave link. For places like these, Claritech installed satellite (VSAT) connections - at isolated hill and mountain locations, in projects running since 2016.

Project requirements

The project required installing VSAT antennas and communications equipment at sites with difficult access and no data-transport infrastructure in the area. The VSAT terminal must be integrated into the site’s existing equipment, and the antenna must be aligned precisely on the serving satellite.

Project type

Satellite (VSAT) data links for communications sites with no fiber and no radio line of sight.

Terrain

Isolated sites in mountain and rural areas - clearings, forests, ridges - hard to reach, in any season.

Timeframe

VSAT installations starting in 2016.

The solution

Antenna and transceiver on the mast

The offset Rx/Tx antenna, the LNB and the transceiver (BUC) are mounted on the site’s existing mast, at height - with mounts sized and engineered for wind, snow and rime ice.

Complete RF chain

LNB on the antenna arm, BUC at the base, cabling labeled and protected - an RF chain executed correctly, easy to maintain on later visits.

Integration into the site’s equipment

The Hughes HT3200 VSAT terminals are integrated with the indoor modem directly in the site cabinet, alongside the equipment already in service.

Alignment and verification

The antenna is aligned precisely on the satellite, and the link is verified for both radio and IP performance.

The results

Connectivity where there is no alternative. Sites with no fiber and no radio line of sight for microwave, connected via satellite.

Integration into the existing site. The VSAT terminal mounts on the site’s existing mast, and the modem goes into the site cabinet, alongside the equipment already in service.

Work in every season. Installations carried out at isolated locations, including mountain sites.

Part of a complete radio portfolio. From DAS and point-to-point links to satellite backhaul - RF expertise from the antenna all the way to transport.

Why Claritech

When a site cannot be connected by fiber or microwave, we connect it via satellite. It is one piece of our connectivity portfolio: over 8,000 IT&C projects in over 4,000 locations, carried out by teams that follow the same documented process, whatever the terrain.
